Introduction

Welcome to the Buddy Helpfile! This page provides instructions for getting the most out of your Buddy, for whatever game or game site it is for. This is a general guideline so keep in mind that your particular Buddy may have more (or less) stats, features, options, and capabilities. So, let's get down to it, shall we?

The Interface (GUI)

What makes Play Buddy programs unique is the GUI Display area, Stats, and plethora of Options and interactive buttons. First up, the Display.

Once a game is active, you'll notice a copy of it appearing in the Buddy's Display section. This is also where the game status, suggested moves and hints are shown. If there are any interactive capabilities (i.e. card counters like Spade Buddy allow clicking on the cards to change their color; word bots like Whomp Buddy allow sorting of lists, etc), this is where they are used.

Below the display is the Stats area where you can see as many as four different stats pertaining to your game. As shown here, these are most often how many games have been played and won, and how many tokens have been earned. Just as with display interaction properties, your particular stats are curtailed to what is most informative for that game and Buddy.

And last but not least are the interactive buttons: Autoplay will begin playing on your behalf and can be stopped at any time. Similarly, the GUI (display and stats) can be collapsed or expanded at any time. The Show hint and Play Hint buttons will do exactly that.

Menu Options

Below the title of the Buddy is its menu. Let's explore these menu selections in depth:

The Options menu allows you to access the Buddy's settings and change them to suit your needs (see below). It also offers an opportunity to refer a buddy (tell a friend) about the Buddy and/or request a new feature.
The Rooms menu is quite a handy feature: it contains a backdoor link to the game.
The Help menu provides information about the Buddy, a link to our website, and a link to this instruction page. Perhaps the most important and helpful feature listed here is the 'Submit a bug report' form to use when the Buddy isn't working or is acting buggy.
Now, about those Program options from the Options menu...
Program Option Settings

Settings Action
Always on top Keeps the Buddy on top of all windows all the time.
Always hint Overrides the 'Show Hint' button and displays the hint automatically.
Minimize to tray Sends the Buddy to the tray (instead of the taskbar) when its minimize button is pressed.
Always play again Keeps the Buddy starting new games automatically when autoplay is on.
Play time Sets the autoplay game time for X number of hours to infinite.
Play sound on startup Turns the "Welcome to Play Buddy" greeting on and off. Also lets users insert their own sound file.
Play Speed Adjusts how slow or fast rounds are completed during autoplay.
Game Options If your Buddy has specific game options they will be listed here. In this example, Pop Buddy Pogo gives users the choice of how many balloons they would like popped, and whether or not they prefer to always use the powerups.
Badge Options Similar to the Game Options, your Buddy may have helpful game play or badge settings (popular with 'Pogo' Buddies); here Pop Buddy offers a handy 'Play for super pops' option which means it will tailor its play to quickly and efficiently earn super-pop badges.

How To Use

Using a Buddy is easy peasy and you'll get a hang of it in no time! Just follow these steps:

  • Log on to your favorite game site or select a room topic from the Buddy's Rooms menu.

  • If you haven't done so already, launch the Buddy when your game is open. It automatically recognizes it and is ready to work.

  • Manual players can reference the GUI and use the Play Hint and Show Hint options.

  • Autoplayers need only press the Autoplay button to have the Buddy complete the games automatically.

Optimizing Performance

  • Versatility: Remember every Buddy is especially created for the game it is for. This means from the Display to the Settings and everything in between, there are helpful features to enhance your game play and enjoyment. So feel free to explore all it has to offer (go ahead - it won't break! ;-) ).

  • Keep off!: Keep the Buddy off of your game window so that it can always see the game; if you can't see it, neither can the Buddy so make sure all 4 corners of the game are visible at all times.

  • If at first you don't succeed...: All computers are different so games in one browser on one computer might not appear the same as the games on our computers or a friend's computers. For this reason, if it doesn't seem to work in Chrome, try Edge or vice versa. Send in a bug report if it does not work at all!

HELP!

It won't recognize the game window

Try an alternate internet browser (i.e. if you're using Chrome, try Edge). Also, double-check that you have the newest version available. Do this by checking the Buddy's status on the Play Buddy App (if there is an update, it will have an update status).

Now make sure that the computer's DPI is set to 100%. Here are instructions.

It won't work

Try the suggestions listed above AND make sure the browser window is NOT full screen (you should be able to see a portion of your desktop around the browser/game). If still no luck, select the Bug Report feature under the HELP menu on the Buddy. Fill in the required fields, capture the screen, and then send it.
