Introduction

Are you one of the many obsessed players of Yahoo Pool?
Do you find it hard to pot those balls in?
Is your Rank slipping?
Are you the minnow in your league?

It's time to get with the times and find out what all of your opponents already know - the answer is Pool Buddy! It happens to be THE BEST and most coveted aimer for Yahoo Pool. It accurately plots the path of your shot and visually depicts it, making sure that every shot is lined up just how you want it. And if that weren't enough, it gives users an additional advantage of being able to zoom in on any ball, line, shot, pocket, or place on the table!

The Interface (GUI)

Pool Buddy works by scanning your current game board and calculates the straight-and-narrow shot then shows it to you by drawing lines. Shots can be practiced on the GUI when a game is open and ready. Just practice the shot then press play. Pause or stop the practice at any time. The combos button doubles as a banks option - a handy shortcut that switches Pool Buddy's focus from combo shots to bank shots.

The GUI also doubles as a Zoom screen when the zoom feature is activated (scroll wheel on mouse or press ctrl key). Click here to see zoom in action.

Pool Buddy also offers an arrangement of menu options: Options, Rooms and Help. You can learn more about these by reading below.

Menu Options

The Options menu allows you to access Pool Buddy's settings and change them to suit your needs (see below). It also offers an opportunity to refer a buddy (tell a friend) about Pool Buddy and/or request a new feature.
The Rooms menu has one of most valuable features of Pool Buddy. It contains backdoors to each of Yahoo's Pool rooms. This feature lets you enter a room even if its full. Note: If the room does not load, login to any Yahoo Pool game with your username and password first then select the desired room from the list.
The Help menu provides instructions on how to use Pool Buddy, a link to the Play Buddy Help Center, shortcuts to buy and register your copy, and a valuable Bug Report feature to use when Pool Buddy isn't working. But perhaps the most valuable feature here is the auto check at startup which automatically checks for any updates.

How To Use

  • Log on to Yahoo games with your username and password.
  • Launch Pool Buddy when your game opens and/or select a room from the Rooms list. Upon entrance it automatically recognizes it and is ready to work.
  • Once you have a game going, Pool Buddy scans your game in real time and displays each shot using guidelines. These lines are displayed on the main game window itself.
  • If you need to test a shot before you play it, use the play button on the Pool Buddy interface. The pause button pauses a shot midway.

Optimizing Performance

  • Lagging: If you experience lagging while Pool Buddy is running, uncheckmark draw while aiming in Options.

  • Practice makes perfect: Remember that Pool Buddy is a tool to assist you in aiming. It is not 100% accurate 100% of the time but it can be pretty darn close especially when users practice with it. This gives you an opportunity to learn the "quirks" of Pool Buddy and use them to your advantage.

  • Zoom Zoom Zoom: Not sure if that shot is lined up just right? Press the ctrl key and/or scroll the wheel on your mouse to zoom in! The feature automatically closes when a shot is made and/or when you right-click the mouse.

  • YIM windows: Transferring between a instant messenger window and a regular game window or vice-versa may cause the Buddy to stop drawing lines so make sure to close it first!

HELP!

It won't recognize the game window

Double-check that you have the newest version available. Do this by using the check for update feature under the Help menu on the Buddy. Also, the "News" section at the top of this page has a link to "Updated Buddies." Here you can see if the Buddy has been recently updated and why.

Now make sure that all the system requirements for the Buddy are met. These include Windows XP or Vista, Internet Explorer, Sun Java, and appropriate display settings.

It won't work

First, go to the Help menu on the Buddy and visit the Troubleshoot page to see if your solution is there. No luck? Select the Bug Report feature under the HELP tab on the Buddy. Fill in the required fields, capture the screen, and then send it. Play Buddy Support will receive it and respond to you via e-mail.
