Introduction
Ever find yourself spending what seems
like hours looking for a tile that's right
in front of your face? Ever wish you had
an extra set of eyes to help solve a puzzle?
If so, you're not alone... nor will you be
alone anymore!
MahjTile Buddy is the perfect
tool for you. This Buddy uses an
intuitive interface that gives
helpful hints when you need them most,
and can take over the entire work load for you.
It's time to find out just how much this helper can benefit
you and your game. |
|
The Interface (GUI)
The main element of the MahjTile Buddy interface is the replica
board that maps your current game. Also provided are interactive buttons for an arrangement of options.
If you prefer to let the bot play for you, select autoplay and collapse
the GUI. Want to switch to manual play? No problem - stop the Buddy and make use of the
show hint and play hint options when you want a little help.
MahjTile Buddy also offers an arrangement of menu options: Options, Rooms and Help. You can learn more about these by reading below.

> Program
Options opens a
dialog that contains a
wide array of parameters
that you can tweak to optimise MahjTile Buddy's
performance. It also offers an opportunity to refer a buddy (tell a friend) about MahjTile Buddy and/or request a new feature. |
 |
The
Rooms menu
contains backdoor access
to MSN's Mah Jong Tiles room. |
 |
The
Help menu
provides instructions on
how to use MahjTile Buddy
and how to buy and
register your copy. But perhaps the most valuable feature here is the auto check at startup which automatically checks for any updates. |

| Settings
|
| Option |
Action |
| Sound at startup |
Turns the "Welcome to
Play Buddy" greeting on and off. |
| Always on top |
Keeps MahjTile Buddy on top of all windows, all the time. |
| Start new game when autoplay is on |
Automatically begins a new game when autoplay is on. |
| Shuffle when stuck |
Typically if the applet (MSN game) becomes unresponsive and causes MahjTile Buddy to
become stuck, it would shuffle the tiles. The feature is disabled because shuffling the tiles is not yet a MSN Mah Jong Tiles feature. |
| Sound and pause when stuck |
If the applet (MSN game) becomes unresponsive and causes MahjTile Buddy to
become stuck, it will make a sound and wait for your intervention. |
| Minimize tile size |
Shows small versions of the tiles in the GUI so that the entire puzzle can be viewed at once. |
| Show recommended moves |
Shows all recommended moves by highlighting the tiles in green. |
| Show all available moves |
Shows all matchable tiles by highlighting them in green. |
| Play speed |
Controls how fast or slow MahjTile Buddy plays during autoplay. |
| Play time |
Tells MahjTile Buddy when to stop playing when autoplay is engaged. |

How To Use
- Log on to MSN games with your username and password.
- Launch MahjTile Buddy and use the Rooms option to quickly enter a game room OR manually enter a game room.
- When your game opens, MahjTile Buddy automatically recognizes it and is ready to work. The interface mimics the live game.
- You can play manually and use MahjTile Buddy as a helper or tool via the Play Hint and Show Hint features. Or select the Autoplay option and let MahjTile Buddy handle it all.

Optimizing Performance
- Brain vs. Braun: Faster isn't always better. The more time MahjTile Buddy has to think, the better moves it will make. For this reason, selecting the fastest speed should be done only when maximum points are not very important.
- Maximizing efficiency: MahjTile Buddy is strongest as a two-person team. Manual users will achieve higher scores by using the Show all available moves feature. Then find an available tile and click on it in the game window. Refer back to the bot for all matching tiles which will be outlined in red.
- The big picture: Having difficulty making out the tiles on the GUI? Simply uncheckmark Minimize tile size and the tiles immediately become life-sized. Then stretch out MahjTile Buddy's window as much as you like (but be careful not to overlap the game!).

HELP!
It won't recognize the game window
Double-check that you have the newest version available. Do this by using the check for update feature under the Help menu on the Buddy. Also, the "News" section at the top of this page has a link to "Updated Buddies." Here you can see if the Buddy has been recently updated and why.
Now make sure that all the system requirements for the Buddy are met. These include Windows XP or Vista, Internet Explorer, Sun Java, and appropriate display settings.
It won't work
First, go to the Help menu on the Buddy and visit the Troubleshoot page to see if your solution is there. No luck? Select the Bug Report feature under the HELP tab on the Buddy. Fill in the required fields, capture the screen, and then send it. Play Buddy Support will receive it and respond to you via e-mail.
